Continental TerrainContact A/T tire is suitable for all-terrain navigation and uses advanced tire manufacturing technologies to balance highway driving needs and off-roading experiences. The tires are available in different sizes (16-22 inches) to fit a wide range of crossovers, touring vehicles, light trucks, and SUV models.
We will highlight some of the technical specifications that have set these tires apart in an already crowded tire market. Our review also provides insights into the actual performance of the tires in different roads and weather conditions, ride comfort and quality, and warranty conditions for the Continental TerrainContact A/T.
What are the features of the Continental TerrainContact A/T?
Continental TerrainContact A/T tires are designed to offer an excellent all-season, all-terrain performance. They strike a balance between highway comfort and durability for off-roading. The tread patterns use the +Silane compounds, which improve on and off-road traction. The tires use open tread patterns and closed shoulders to extend the tread life, stabilize tread blocks and improve traction.
The design of the tread patterns facilitates even wear. Continental TerrainContact A/T boasts of excellent wet traction, a function of the tread patterns, full-depth sipes, and durable tread compounds. The tires contain traction grooves at the edges of the block to improve traction across different seasons.
The casing of these tires is reinforced using high-strength steel belts. The tensile steel belts improve the stability of the tires when driving at high speeds. They also increase the load-bearing capabilities of the tires. The Continental TerrainContact A/T tires use polyamide reinforcement supported by two-ply nylon casings. Continental Tires use the TractionPlus Technology to improve off-road traction, grip on wet roads, and control noise levels.
How long does Continental TerrainContact A/T tire last?
Continental Tires offer an attractive limited tread life warranty. The company has a six-year or 60,000-mile limited tread life warranty. The uniformity warranty is limited to the first year or the first 2/32″ of the tread wear.
The company covers all replacement expenses resulting from poor workmanship and manufacturing defects for a maximum of 6 years after purchase. There is a 60-day return window for customers who feel dissatisfied with the performance of the tires.
Continental TerrainContact A/T tires have tread wear indicators which consist of multiple rubber bars placed within the grooves.
Off-road performance
For the off-road driving experience, the Continental TerrainContact A/T tires post mixed results. One feature that remains constant is the sufficient traction that the tires offer. On hard-packed roads, light dirt, and gravel surfaces, the tires have high stability levels and are responsive to steering. The braking distance remains short, and the ride is comfortable.
On muddy roads, the tires struggle. Handling becomes difficult, and the traction drops. The tires become less responsive to steering controls. It is partly due to the low depth of the treads. On rocky roads, the capabilities of the tires deteriorate. The larger the particles, the harder it is for the tires to overcome. The tires lose their traction and are unable to overcome the surface obstacles.
Wet performance
Every driver has to worry about the safety of the tires when driving over wet and slippery roads. When there is a thin layer of water on the road driving safety is reduced. However, with Continental TerrainContact A/T, you can put the worries aside.
The tires perform exceptionally well on slippery roads. The tires exhibit superb braking characteristics and have sufficient grip on the road. The tires are stable when cornering at high speed on wet roads.
They remain stable and easy to steer even in spools of rain. The tires have deep circumferential and lateral grooves that ensure timely evacuation of surface runoffs to protect the vehicle against hydroplaning.
The Continental TerrainContact A/T tires boast of solid wet traction, batter than most highway tires.
Dry performance
Continental TerrainContact A/T is not your ordinary all-terrain tire. It is an excellent performer on the highway. It is difficult to distinguish it from specialized highway tires. It has remarkable responsiveness to steering controls. The tire is easy to handle at multiple speeds.
The tires have excellent dry traction and stability. The grip on the road is on point, has a shorter braking distance, and is easy to handle.
Comfort performance
Continental TerrainContact A/T tires are impressive when it comes to ride quality and comfort. It is among the quietest tires with sufficient noise control mechanisms. The vibrations and aftershocks that drivers experience on hitting bumps do not affect these tires that much. They absorb most of those disturbances.
The aggressive tread patterns provide suitable means for absorbing noise allowing the drivers to cruise at high speed. When driving off-road, the noise levels are at a minimum.
Winter&snow performance
Drivers have been accustomed to changing tires to maximize performance depending on the season. Continental TerrainContact A/T comes as an all-season all-terrain tire that is ready for the task. On light snow, the tires offer above-average traction.
They remain responsive to steering controls and post remarkably short braking distances. Extreme winter conditions do not have much effect on their performance. In deep snow, the tires have modest capabilities. The aggressive tread patterns, deep grooves, and open shoulders provide sufficient biting edges to permit safe driving over icy roads.
