Biggest Tire You Can Fit on a Stock GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC Sierra 1500 is a full-size pickup truck that can boast high durability, great towing features, safety technologies, and a variety of additional options. Sierra offers more luxurious materials and a comfortable interior than his sibling Silverado.

Every truck owner makes his vehicle more individual by customizing it, usually by installing bigger tires.

So, what is the biggest tire you can fit on a stock GMC Sierra 1500?

According to the manufacturer, a 32.5-inch tire is the largest size that can be mounted on a stock Sierra 1500.

Sierras 1500, produced in 2000-2022, can accommodate 33-inch tires without side modifications.

A 34-inch tire can be installed on a stock Sierra 1500. However, 34 tire size causes no rubbing and requires no body trimming only on trucks produced in 2009-2011.

While examining various custom-built projects, we’ve spotted that some GMC enthusiasts managed to install 35 (and slightly bigger) tire sizes on their Sierra 1500 trucks. It is worth mentioning that a 35-inch tire for now only fits stock 2007-2022 Sierra`a 1500 trucks.

We classified the tire and rim sizes after inspecting many truck owners’ custom-built projects from various forums. Additionally, we`ve made a helpful table listing the largest tire sizes for each year.

We only offer tire sizes that don’t require cutting the fenders, changing the factory suspension, or causing any rubbing.

What size tire can I fit on a stock GMC Sierra 1500?

2013 GMC Sierra 1500. Wheel parameters: 35.6×10.4R20.

GMC Sierra 1500 trucks have many options for tire sizes. Determining factors of the tire that can fit Sierra`s 1500 are the year of production, trim level, and of course, rim size of the truck.

The largest size which fits GMC Sierra 1500 stock suspension, as the manufacturer mentions, is a 32.5-inch tire.

There is a possibility of fitting a 33-inch tire on a stock GMC Sierra 1500.

For example, a 2000-2005 Sierra 1500 can accommodate a 33-inch tire size with OEM suspension and no additional leveling or lift kits. Sizes for 2000-2005 GMC trucks that fit wheel wells have the following variations: 33×9.5, 33×12.5, 33.8×11.2.

Speaking about tire sizes that will fit a stock 2000-2005 Sierra 1500, here how they look like: 33×12.5 tire on 17×9 (same size goes to 18×10 and 20×9) rim, 33.8×11.2 tire on 17×9 rim and 33×9.5 on 17×9 rim.

Such tire sizes as 33×10.8 on 20×9 and 33.2×10.8 on 18×9 wheels perfectly fit stock 2013-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. In most cases, no rubbing, trimming, or fenders rolling are faced.

For the 2017 and newer stock Sierra`s 1500 previously mentioned configuration, a 33×10.8 tire on a 20×9 rim works fine with no further rubbing or trimming issues.

Stock Sierra 1500 trucks produced in 2019-2022 can also fit 33-inch tires without any side or additional changes to the car. Here are more detailed examples of such tire and rim sizes:  33×9.5, 33×10.8, and 33×12.5 tires on 20×9 wheels.

Stock GMC Sierra 1500 can accommodate even a 34-inch tire with no intrusion to the suspension or any other side modifications to the vehicle.

A 34-inch tire works best on the 2009-2011 Sierra 1500, while on other truck generations, one may face slight to significant rubbing and trimming. For example, a stock 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 runs a 34.6×12.8 tire on an 18×9 rim.

The biggest tire size for a 2007-2022 Sierra 1500 with stock suspension is a 35-inch (slightly bigger than 35) tire. Let’s consider 35-inch tire sizes more closely in several examples below.

A 2007 stock Sierra 1500 35-inch tire size has these parameters: 35.4×10.8 tire on 17×9 rim.

For 2009 stock Sierra 1500 – 35×12.5 tire on 17×9 wheel, for 2013 stock Sierra 1500 – 35.6×10.4 tire on 20×9 rim, for 2014 stock Sierra 1500 – 35×12.5 tire on 20×12 wheel,  and 2022 stock Sierra 1500 – 35×12.5 tire on 18×9 rim.

All mentioned above tire sizes for different wheels and GMC truck generations don’t rub and require trimming.

What size tires are best for stock GMC Sierra 1500?

Bigger tire upgrades often call for additional truck changes. Usually, to fit larger tires,  leveling or lift kits are required, or additional cuts to the truck’s body are needed, which not every owner wants to perform on his beloved vehicle.

But you can still apply bigger tires and preserve your Silverado 2500 HD in stock form.

The GMC Sierra 1500 tire sizes can vary from 245/70R17 to 275/60R20, taking into account the trim level and year of your truck production.
