Yokohama has managed to package comfort and performance in one tire to meet the expectations of regular highway drivers with aspirations to conquer the tough off-roads. Of course, when off-roading becomes the norm, durability gets questionable.
Luckily, with Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015, any SUV or light truck driver can explore the off-roads without worrying over the longevity of the tires. This review discusses Yokohama’s specs and critical manufacturing aspects to enhance Geolandar A/T G015 performance across seasons and terrains.
It also highlights the performance of the tires under different driving conditions. The tires are available in various sizes, with rim diameters ranging from 15 to 22 inches.
What are the features of the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015?
Yokohama balances the performance of the Geolandar A/T G015 tires for off-roading and highway driving by optimizing the design of the treads. The treads utilize a wear-resistant Triple Polymer which is molded to create symmetric tread patterns. The tires can easily be rotated to keep tread wear uniform.
Geolandar A/T G015 limits noises by using tread blocks of varying pitches. To defend the tires against hydroplaning, Yokohama manufacturers its tires with deep grooves that cover the entire circumference of the tire. They ensure maximum evacuation of surface runoffs. The tires come with full-depth 3D sipes and grooves on their lugs to increase the surface area of the biting edges for easy driving on snowy roads.
Like most all-terrain tires, the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 tires come with reinforced internal casings that guarantee durability and stability on different roads. The construction of the inner casing uses a pair of high-strength tensile steel belts. Two-ply polyester materials are used to reinforce the strength of the steel belts. Additionally, the tires feature spiraling nylon cords that enhance straight-line stability and ride comfort.
Tires with winter use capabilities feature the three-peak mountain snowflake label with additional enhancements that improve traction on deep snow.
How long does the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 tire last?
Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 tires have an attractive warranty package that is within the tire industry standards. The limited tread life warranty covers the first 60,000 miles/5 years of tire operation for metric size tires.
LT-metric and floatation sizes have a limited tread life warranty of 50,000 miles. Uniformity warranty covers the first 2/32” of the tread wear. The company covers for defects from manufacturing and replacements for inoperability due to poor workmanship for up to 5 years.
The tires have small rubber strips positioned within the grooves that act as tread wear indicators. Once the rubber strips flush with the tread, drivers have to replace the tires to improve driving safety.
Off-road performance
Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 doesn’t disappoint if you are after a great off-road experience. The tires use the Edgetec technology to increase the number of grooves between the optimized treads. With the additional grooves, drivers can steer easily and achieve sufficient grip levels when driving on dirt or sand roads.
On muddy roads, the tires are averagely responsive to steering controls. They have sufficient traction for adequately gripping on the road surface. As the mud thickens, performance deteriorates but with better results than other all-terrain competitors.
The tires exhibit good performance when driven over rocky roads. Of course, they struggle a bit when the rocks get larger.
Wet performance
If you enjoy high-speed driving even in rainy conditions, then the Geolandar A/T G015 is a suitable tire for you. The symmetric tread pattern guarantees sufficient wet traction. The firm grip ensures that the tires remain responsive to steering controls and can maneuver wet surfaces.
The deep grooves that cover the entire circumference ensure that water evacuation is kept at an optimum level to prevent instances of hydroplaning. The good thing with these tires is their braking ability. You can stop your vehicle over short distances. Handling is comfortable.
Dry performance
On dry roads, Geolandar A/T G015 proves to be reliable. It offers unprecedented levels of dry traction and grips firmly on the streets. The tires are steady at high speed, easy to handle and respond well to steering controls. A reinforced sidewall ensures that the tires can negotiate corners with ease.
In terms of braking, the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 tire exhibits superb results. The perfect grip means that the braking distances are shorter when compared to other all-terrain tires. Generally, the tires are easy to handle and very responsive.
Comfort performance
On the highway, drivers can enjoy a calm and comfortable ride. Yokohama uses strands of spiraling nylon reinforcements which absorb most of the road shocks and vibrations. However, the ride quality is subject to driving speeds. When at moderate speeds, the ride feels comfortable. As the speed increases, the comfort levels drop.
The same applies to noise levels. The Geolandar A/T G015 tires rank better than most all-terrain tires. They are calm at slower speeds, but as you accelerate further, it gets noisier. You can listen to the roar of the tires inside the car.
Winter&snow performance
Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 tires have remarkable performances over light snow. The tires have grooves within their lugs, 3D sipes, and deep circumferential grooves that maximize the biting edges of the tires.
Combining these features makes it possible for SUVs and light truck drivers to maintain a reasonable grip and drive over light snow. Braking capabilities remain decent, and the responsiveness of the tires is modest.
The performance of the tires in deep snow and ice is reduced. Traction is sufficient for safe driving and braking. That said, the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 performs better than most all-terrain brands under extreme winter conditions.
Are Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 good?
Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 is a durable tire with excellent performance across terrains and seasons. It is a costly tire that guarantees comfort even under severe winter conditions.
